The Clark County School District has developed the
magnet program [school] concept as an effective tool
for providing students the opportunity to attend schools
offering unique educational programs. A magnet pro-
gram is a course of instruction related to a very specific
theme or concept to which students from the greater
Las Vegas area are attracted. Students who choose to
attend magnet programs, do so because of a special
interest or talent in the theme or concept of a program.

   Magnet programs present alternatives for addressing
the community's educational needs. They give parents
an opportunity to choose their child's school. They pro-

mote diversity, improve a student's achievement, and crate a keen awareness of career
opportunities relative to the fields in which students may have an interest! By providing
unique educational programs, magnet schools offer all students opportuinties to choose
educational experiences based on their own special interests and/or advanced abilities!

When the number of eligible students applications for any magnet
program exceeds the number of seats available for a program area,
the Clark County School District will then utilize a "lottery" system.
